I am so damn sunburnt. It sucks. My forehead is too small, with the skin all crinkled up and kinda scabby. Without lotion I look like a peeling monster. yucky nea!

A Celebrity-Filled 24 Hours
I have had some very entertaining times recently. Friday, on my horrible commute home, I changed lanes and noticed a BRIGHT pink Corvette driving alongside me. I was totally thinking, "Only in LA could someone have a car like that" when I noticed the license plate: Angelyne. Now, when I was a kid, I thought Angelyne was some made-up thing to represent LA. She was the stereotypical bombshell blonde. Why she was advertised along the 405 I never really understood. It was not until recently that Dave let me know that yes, Angelyne is a real person who likes to advertise herself. I still thought she was legend though, so when I saw this barbie-pink Corvette and plates I had to check out the person inside. After much manuevering in traffic down the 101, I finally pulled alongside the car. Yes, there is an Angelyne. She is EXACTLY like those billboards: bleach blonde, big eyelashes and lots of eyeliner, and even wearing a bright pink sweater. I drove near here all along the 101 and we got off at the same exit. I was so entertained to find out that she is not a myth.
Today Dave and I went to the Festival of Books at UCLA. I have been going to the festival since it started in 1996 and every year it gets better and better. This year I decided to try and actually plan on seeing people, so Dave and I picked today, rather than tomorrow, to check out Nobu Matsuhisa, Maya Angelou, and Ruth Reichel. Dave wakes me up at 9 this morning with (screech) "You didn't tell me Alton Brown was going to be at the Festival of Books!!!!!!!" This totally made Dave's day. So we went to the festival, which was full, and watched Nobu do a cooking demonstration. There was a good number of people there, but still plenty of seats. We had an hour before Alton, and so went to go get some food at Panda. We come back about 15 minutes before the show and EVERY seat is taken, there is a huge crowd around the seats, and a line to meet Alton before the show. There are people in the audience wearing Good Eats shirts. There is a fan club. There is totally chaos. We were stunned at the following he has. The demonstration was great, though, and afterwards Dave bought his cookbook and had him sign it. Alton had the longest author signing line I have ever seen in my seven years there. Longer than Ray Bradbury (who I met last year. He is very cool.), longer than Amy Tan, longer than Mary Higgens Clark . . . you get the idea. But we got in the line reasonably early and got to meet him after a reasonable wait. At this point, Dave and I had been at the festival over four hours and were quite sunburnt. So we head back to the car and check out the author signing booths along the way. We notice an author Dave likes, Pico Iyer, who had no line to speak of. So we bought his newest books and got to meet him too.
The two signings were VERY different. With Alton Brown it was purely give a name, say hi, and get a "To Dave, AB". With Pico Iyer, Dave talked to him for a bit, shared travel experiences, and Pico wrote a nice personalized note in each book. The effect of a cult following can be quite obvious sometimes.
Books purchased today, all by Dave: Le Guide Rouge for Paris, Fruit by Alice Waters, Alton Brown's cookbook, and two books by Pico Iyer. yay books!

I wish that I could have some time at home to just hang out and do nothing. Instead, there are just so many chores and stuff that tend to build up because I am home for like two hours every night before bed and Dave doesn't want to be a domestic bitch. argh
Finally got to an APhiO meeting last night. Dude, the chapter is huge now that they have fifty plus pledges. Usually, there are a few rows in the middle and back that are empty. Last night every row had a bunch of people in it. If this continues, we'll have to move back into Dodd 127 or something. I'm very impressed.

Please stop asking if I am nervous or stressed out or paniced about the wedding. Things are organized. I am fine. I am not going to fall on the floor in a panic attack, I promise.
The apartment poisoned Dave and I again. Headaches and totally queasy. We went to the manager to go talk about it, and found out the apartment below us had a mildew problem when the guy moved out, and so we were smelling a combo of mildew remover, fresh paint, and who knows what else from the apartment below. yuck

I am way too busy. This is my week (add this to an hour commute in the morning plus work from 8:30 am to 5 pm):
Sunday: tutor one kid
Monday: tutor two kids
Tuesday: tutor one kid
Wednesday: APhiO
Thursday: tutor two kids
Friday: Hollywood Men
The earliest I am getting home is 7:30. That means 12 hours out of the house, mostly working, every day. I am so looking forward to having thwo and a half weeks off for the wedding, and to the middle of June when the kids will have finals and I can be done tutoring for the summer. Every year, I debate what I am going to do about tutoring in the fall. Once again, I don't know if I want to or if I can afford not to. argh

Thoughts on an Asian meat market.
Friday night Dave and I needed to be social, so we met some friends for a "mixer" at Eurochow. Yes, that shi-shi restraunt in Westwood. No, we did not go to eat there. Instead, they had removed all the tables from the bottom floor, set up an extra bar and a dance floor, and made a rather cool little club out of the place. It was like all Asian, with a few random white people (myself and Dave included) kinda mixed in. The girls were younger than the guys on average, and it felt like everyone was looking to hook up. Totally a night to dress hoochie and have men buy you $10 drinks.
For those girls really trying to find a man, there was the panty flashing area. Basically, Eurochow has this stairway leading up above the main floor to where a single table can be placed overlooking everything. People would walk up there and check out the scene and be seen. The problem was a LOT of girls wearing short tight dresses went up there. At least three (we were watching) were not wearing any panties Saw way more Asian pussy than I needed to. yuck. Eventually these girls would get hit on and come down the stairs, only to be replaced by more panty flashing girls. This guy who came with us was SO entertained. We had to more or less drag him away from under the staircase.
The rest of the weekend was not so exciting. Did various wedding stuff, laundry, random domestic bitchery, and went out to eat a lot.

I am sick and trying to ease my headache by taking silly quizzes. This is pretty appropriate figuring that I read the second and third Harry Potter books this past week.

which children's storybook character are you?
this quiz was made by colleen
My new job was finally announced yesterday. I am now officially moving to the Hyundai-Kia account once we take it over in May. I'm a little annoyed that my promotion from Biller to Senior Biller (can we all say oooooooohhhhh) was not announced, but whatever. The people who give out raises know that I was promoted and that's what's important.
Our houseguests are gone. It was fun having them, but I have to admit it's nice to have the house to ourselves and be able to eat breakfast in the living room in my panties. I stayed home from work yesterday because I was sick, and got to take advantage of the healing effects of the pool. Dave came home at 2, and we got to spend some time just hanging out. It was really nice.

It tires you out to have celebrating and mourning in the same weekend.
Saturday was my bridal shower. In the morning a handful of us went to dim sum, which was much good. We got to let Randi try a whole bunch of new stuff. I think she is having an awesome time with CA food. From there, we treked back to the apartment, got Dave changed since my dad wanted to take pics for favors, and headed over to my dad's house for the shower.
The whole thing was lovely. My stepmom and aunt, who are both named Cheryl Adler (my family is so wierd sometimes), threw the shower and made everything really pretty. All the decorations were in purple and green, to match our wedding colors. There were about 25 women and 6 guys who quickly left the house due to being ovewhelmed with estrogen. We hung out and played games and opened presents. There were some neat moments. My aunt Cathy brought a pic from her wedding, where my mom was maid of honor. My sister, Camille, looks just like my mom. Also, it was the first time my dad had seen some of my family for almost twenty years (divorces do that). I am such a material person though--I had the best time opening presents. We got quite a few things off of our registry, and a few things that weren't on it but that we really liked. My cousin Breanne found this awesome hat box with a pic of the eiffel tower on it (we're going to Paris for our honeymoon) and a Paris-themed memory book that will be perfect for honeymoon stuff. We got a bunch of our towels and silverware and dishes and all sorts of neat stuff. Getting things like dishes really emphasizes to me that yes, I am getting married and becoming domestic. It's so odd. Afterward I was going to go out with the girls but we all got tired and just hung out at the apartment instead.
Dave picked up our rings on Saturday. The engraving is beautiful. It was twice as expensive as the rough estimate we had received, but once Dave found out that the head jeweler/engraver had to create a special bit and spend twelve hours working on our rings, he decided it was worth the cost. Robbins Bros really does a great job.
Sunday was a very different environment. There is a Jewish tradition of unveiling a person's gravestone. In the US and Canada, this happens about a year after the person's death. So Sunday was the unveiling of my step-grandfather, Ed's, headstone. It was this nice service, led by my "cousin" Ziony, and we went over to Ed's widow, Anne's, home for brunch. I got another chance to catch up with my family, and talk more about the wedding. The wedding has more or less become the main topic of conversation for everyone. Long weekend overall, but a good one.

Blogger is eating entries again. I've posted at least twice since that Moulin Rouge thing, yet where are they now? Argh.
I don't think I've ever had a married couple, let alone one where the husband is becoming a pastor, stay at my place before. It's different than people who are dating, even those who have been dating for forever. There's a certain partnership, a sharing, in the whole thing. It's pretty cool.
Yesterday we went and picked up our wedding license, as well as got Kris deputized to marry us. The license came with a really funny pamphlet entitled "If There are Children in Your Future." It has very important advice, like not getting drunk or changing cat litter while pregnant. Tomorrow Dave is picking up our rings (we got them engraved) and at some point soon we really need to pick up our engagement pictures, too. And tomorrow is the bridal shower! I'm excited. Things are slowly speeding up towards crazy wedding central.

I had Easter dinner at my mom's yesterday. My stepfather's family all came over to eat and hang out. I brought Dave, my cousin Megan is engaged, my cousin Cassie brought the boyfriend she lives with, my cousin Breanne brought her boyfriend . . . we're getting old. My parents and aunts and uncles are starting to talk about grandchildren. Though most of yesterday was spent teasing my aunt Joan about when she and a bunch of the guests at my mom and dad's wedding went skinny dipping in the pool. They just about died laughing when I send that we specifically looked for a place that did not have a pool for our wedding.
Dave and I continue to be entertained by looking at our registry and seeing what people have bought. We're so pathetic. Getting all these gifts is so cool though! I like this whole wedding thing. ;)
