Quote of the day:

I woke up to the dog humping my arm.

So we got a dog, Jackie.  She is not the smartest dog on earth, but well behaved and sweet.  We thought she was a watchdog, as she barks at things alot, but then noticed what she was barking at:

People walking on the sidewalk on the other side of the street, but not people walking down the sidewalk to our front door.

The pepper grinder, but not the smoke alarm.

My cell phone, but not Dave's pager.

Well, at least she's friendly and cute.

Thoughts for today:

Yes, sugar has carbohydrates. And yes, ice blended mochas are not part of a low-carb diet. Neither are chinese dishes like orange chicken.

If you are not going to a luncheon and our company is not paying for the luncheon, you cannot fight with me about the location. You are not part of the decision. Nor should you call the person I am meeting with and fight with them about the location. To use your comparison, going to a churrascaria (basically, all you can eat brazilain meat)when doing a low carb diet is not like "Shopping for a sports car at a Hummer dealership."

There are days when you just have to laugh at the stupidity of others.

My boss, this morning, to a coworker who got a new car, "This means you're going to take us all out for Cinco de Mayo, right?"

"Cinco means five."

"oh."

Wednesday night I had to slow down over Coldwater Canyon, a road in which thousands of cars drive each day between the westside and the valley, to avoid hitting a deer. Nice to know that we have wiped out all the wildlife in LA.

The internet still amazes me sometimes. The past few days I've been trying to gather contact information for an APhiO Alumni Reunion. In just a few hours, I was able to go through websites and find quite a few people. There would have been no way to have that kind of information available before. Add to that talking to people on AIM and going through my computer and I was able to find about half of all of the alumni. Nice.

This morning we received THE CALL. The call that said that Dave wasn't going to be able to spend time with his grandmother this weekend, as we hoped. The call that meant that all the arrangements with home health care workers and hospital bed delivery wasn't necessary. The call that means we have to pack up and get our butts to New Jersey. She's gone.

This week Dave and I have talked a lot about death. We realized that his grandmother got to go the way I think most people want to. She was ninety-one and her husband and most of her friends had gone on before her. She was mentally alert and aware of what was going on and had total control of the situation. She was among her family and not in pain. And, unlike most people, she was ready for it to happen. It's comforting to know that that this is what she wanted.

Looks like I need to do some more traveling. However, between house stuff, taxes, and going to weddings, I don't think that's happening this year.

We have moved! The move went really well. We hired a moving company with holiday money from my dad and stepmom, which made life SO much easier. We got the house Wednesday night, though when we came over at 6:30 (the house was officially ours at 6), the family we bought it from was still frantically packing. They left a lot of random stuff, some of which we really appreciate (ladder, fireplace tools, hose) and some of which we really didn't need (a slinky bathrobe, dogbed, dirt, dirt, doghair, and more dirt). The funniest part is that they left all of the dog stuff, including the food, bowls, bed, brush, and beware of dog signs. We've been joking that we have an invisible dog named Ghost.

As of today, we have finished doing the room painting. I'm going to have to do a lot of touchup work in the rooms we didn't paint, but at least the main stuff is done. The dark purple wall in the guest room, after three coats of paint, is finally gone. The office turned out really nice as well. We have a lot of unpacking and furniture moving to do, but so far everything is going really well. Dave and I will put up pictures when the house looks like habitable.

I have long had a theory that most "health" bars (power bars, cliff, luna, balance, etc.) were just candy bars trying to package themselves as something more.

I have finally found the missing link: Snickers Marathon bar. Snickers now has a power bar.

I like packing, but it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Dave, my mom, and I packed about fifty boxes of stuff today. Books, games, a lot of the kitchen . . . it's amazing how much crap you can store in cabinets and bookcases. We got a lot done today, which is good. We're planning on having a heavy packing session Saturday and Sunday of next weekend and then we should be all ready. Yay house!

After the craziness of December, January is dead at work. I had three phone calls today, all of whom were returning voice mails. No letters. No urgent business. I guess it's time to stir up some of the old audits. It's always fun to send out letters to people we haven't contacted in over a year and see what happens.

Also, January means back to dieting. whee!
